Diego's in Newport, RI

Yesterday, I went to Newport, Rhode Island for the first time. Let me just say, it is absolutely beautiful! It was the perfect summer day trip.

For lunch and sangrias, we went to Diego's at the Bowen Wharf. The sangrias were amazing. They were kind of spicy. Chips & guacamole, butternut squash soup, salad... YUMMMMM!

In short, great location, delicious food, cheap prices, awful service. But I think you should eat here if you go to Newport anytime soon!

The Patio @ Alibi, Liberty Hotel

It is safe to say that summer weather has finally arrived!

The only place I wanted to be the first nice night out was the patio at Alibi in the Liberty Hotel. My friends and I somehow always manage to meet the most intriguing, interesting, and sometimes very strange people here. A funny story is always formulated by the end of the night.

An FBI agent bought me a drink because I told some guy he looked like a "Ken" doll. Picked up a bunch of girls LOL. Met a cute guy. Saw a douche bag ex-fling. Got free drinks all night. That sounds like a productive evening to me!

I only have good things to say about Alibi. All in all, always a good time. Happy summer... almost.

Mumbai Chopstix, Newbury Street

Saturday afternoon, my friend Fart, yes his name is actually Fart, and I were starving for some delicious oriental food. We walked past Mumbai Chopstix on Newbury Street which claims to serve Indo-Chinese food. So we thought, why not! Let's try it out. Plus, they had a lunch buffet for only eleven bucks.

Firstly, the restaurant/hotel is under construction so that was a little bit distracting to my dining experience. Secondly, the food looked extremely appetizing. Zucchini in oyster sauce, bhel puri, sesame chicken, garlic sauteed broccoli and more! YUM! I thought...

So we sat down, excited to try this "Indo-Chinese" meal. DISAPPOINTMENT. All I ate was take-out Chinese food. We were so disappointed. Qwan's on Commonwealth Avenue in Allston serves better tasting food than this and that's not really saying much.

Sorry to say Mumbai Chopstix but you are NOT what I thought you were going to be. Weak. However, the place is nicely decorated.

Zumba @ BodyScapes

I recently joined Bodyscapes Fitness in Coolidge Corner, Brookline. Beacon Hill Athletic Club was just not working for me. Not only is this close to my office which will force me to go to the gym before/after work, but the facility is MUCH nicer. It's like night and day. Sorry BHAC!

Monday night, I took the Zumba class. Let me just say, I have never seen elderly woman shake it as fast as they were shakin it! It was absolutely inspiring to say the least. They were having the time of their lives. While the class itself was really good and reminded me of how much I love dancing, I was more entertained by the older women around me (some in their 80's) who were confidently and happily shaking their bums like they were being paid to!

The instructor was great but as my luck would have it, my first day in her class was her last day teaching. Go figure. Toward the end of the class, she provided the class with bellydancing coin hip scarves for a zumba dance infused with Arabic & Indian moves. I had so much fun and such an amazing workout - I wish this class was every day.

Anyway, if you live in Brookline and are looking for a good Zumba class or just a great gym with great amenities, Bodyscapes is the way to go. Enjoy this awesome track that we Zumba-ed/bellydanced to!

India Quality, Commonwealth Avenue

After my commencement ceremony yesterday, my family and I were craving Indian food so I suggested India Quality in Kenmore Square.

This place is kind of a hole in the wall, but not completely lol. When we got there, the place was packed! You could smell the restaurant from a mile away, it smelled so delicious!

(you gotta love this picture)

We ordered papads, bhel puri, vegetable pakoras, saag paneer, lamb chops, and lamb curry, naan. Boy oh boy, just thinking about it is making my mouth water! While the food was heavy (as is almost all Indian food) we left so satisfied and with tons of leftovers. The pricing is accurate and the tastes were fantastic!

If you want Indian food in Boston, forget Kashmir and Bhindi Bazaar just because they are in premium locations. I highly, highly recommend India Quality. YUM!

PS. If your mouth doesn't water from the photos, then something is wrong with you.

Mistral, South End

Friday night, I joined one of my bestest girlfriends ever and her family to celebrate our graduation at Mistral located on 223 Columbus Avenue in the South End.

This was my second time and my verdict is the same as the first - a truly lovely dining experience. Everything from the atmosphere, service, the Provencal-inspired food, and crowd is top notch.

We started our multiple course dinner with tuna tartare & salmon tartare. My friend and I killed two baskets of bread. We devoured duck, lamp chops, halibut, and salmon. YUM! Needless to say, I fell into a major food coma post-dinner.

I must say that I have had such positive experiences at every restaurant owned by the Columbus Hospitality Group (Mistral, Teatro, Sorellina etc) The group masters class, sophistication, and high quality in all aspects of their restaurants.

Anyway, I HIGHLY recommend Mistral for anyone who enjoys fancy wining and dining. 5 stars from me!

Flower's Closet

So I have decided to stop being a hoarder and get rid of some of my dresses that I will never wear again. I am not so eBay savvy, so it's a work in progress getting the items on there. Bear with me. Anyway, if you go on eBay, search for "SumairaFlower" to see what I have posted! There is plenty more to come!

NYX Cosmetics 12 Hour 12th Anniversary Sale = EPIC FAIL

Thanks to invasive Facebook advertisements, I came to know about NYX Cosmetics 12 hour, 12th anniversary sale which was supposed to run today, Sunday May 15th, from 12pm-12am. Allegedly, products were retailed at 95% off and you could purchase make up for as low as $1.20.

I am no make up connoisseur but am usually particular about which brands of make up I wear. However, I could not not take advantage of this amazing sale! Just like all the other girls, actually maybe guys too, I waited by my computer so I could buy at least one thing without something getting sold out.

Clearly, NYX Cosmetics completely underestimated how many people would take advantage of this exclusive online sale. The server crashed at 12:01 pm, merely a minute after the sale began. Yeah, I was annoyed but holy moly, you should go to the Facebook fan page to see how angry some people are. Poor crisis communications on NYX Cosmetics' end as the server is still down and the company is making empty promises to its customers on the FB page.

Considering that there are over 50,000 fans on FB for NYX, they might want to be a little more well prepared for their next sale. I hope they are going to somehow make up for their foolishness. Anyway, hope everyone had a rocking weekend and has a great work week. It will be raining all week... wonderful. Ciao

Daisy's, Newbury Street

I am still in shock that I landed up here. The last time I went to Daisy Buchanan's was when I was a sophomore at BU, naive and underage LOL. I also told myself that I would never step foot in there once I could legally drink.

After Towne began to disappoint, we head over to Daisy's - not my choice. It was like a blast from the past. Still the same kind of crowd, disgusting bathrooms, and grungy atmosphere yet everyone always seems to be having such a gay ole' time there. Go figure.

Daisy's is definitely not my scene but I did enjoy the 45 minutes I was there, most probably because of the people I was with. The highlight of my evening was when I asked an undercover cop something that I probably shouldn't have asked him. LOL! Anyway, it's all good - I am in the clear.

Daisy's is so well-known in town, my opinion of this place doesn't even matter. If you're into the kind of ambiance that Daisy's offers, then you already have been there. And if you're like me and don't appreciate the casualness of Daisy's, then you don't need me to tell you to not waste your time. Hopefully I will be going somewhere more up my alley tonight. XOXO

Island Creek Oyster Bar, Kenmore Square

This evening apres work, I went to Island Creek Oyster Bar with some chickas. For a Monday night, this place was pretty hoppin! I have been meaning to check this little spot out for the longest time and finally made my way there tonight. First of all, let me correct myself because this place is not little at all. I was actually in amazement from the minute I walked in.

The interior design of I.C.O.B blew me away. The colors, embellishments, furniture - ah, so much character. Excuse my nerdiness but this oyster bar manages to maintain class and sophistication in its decor while also staying very close to its roots - oysters and fishing. You'll know what I mean when you go there or if you have already been.

As far as the service is concerned, we were greeted by an adorable hostess who was nothing but sweet however, the same cannot be said about our waiter. I understand they needed everyone to be out of the restaurant by 7 p.m. for an event but damn homie, take a chill pill, we knew we had to go LOL. He also forgot my girlfriend's wine but redeemed himself by not charging her for it. Good save buddy!

I was exhausted from work so maybe I wasn't in the greatest mood ever but I would definitely like to come back here, preferably not on a game night, more dressed up and maybe I will actually indulge in some oysters! Seems like a great after work place to get drinks and socialize with yuppies and Rico Suaves. P.S., an insider source tells me Friday nights @ I.C.O.B is a great place to find some sugar daddies... SAY WHAT? lol. Ciao and wishing everyone a good week at work.

Dali Restaurant, Somerville

(The waiter asked us what the occasion was, one of the girls I was with mentioned graduation. Of course, they thought it was me celebrating, turned all the lights off, made me wear this hat made of plastic vines and sang to me. Embarrassing.)

Last night, I went for some Tapas delights at Dali in Somerville. I had heard this place was pretty happening, but I had no idea that it was THAT happening.

We arrived at what seemed to be a little restaurant at the corner around 8:30. When you enter, you are automatically transported to a different country. After 5 minutes of being there, I forgot that I was in Boston. They played my favorite Shakira tracks real loudly, the waiters and bartenders were all dressed in Latin American garb, and the place was packed! We waited an hour to be seated... oye vey.

When I say that the wait was worth it, I mean it. Everyone knows I am an impatient little bitch but my girlfriend kept reassuring me that the food was going to make me forget about waiting and boy was she right. We ordered stuffed chicken breasts in asparagus sauce, grilled potatoes, some goat cheese dish, and paella. Yummy yum yum!

The place itself is so colourful and ornate. Every corner is so detailed and decorated. The host of the restaurant was also absolutely hysterical. He made sure to continuously flirt with all of us while we were waiting for our table probably so we wouldn't get pissed off LOL.

Anyway, though I am not really that crazy about Tapas , I do highly recommend this adorable little place for the food, atmosphere, drinks, and energy! Only downside, long wait but that only means that the restaurant is that good. Ciao bellas

PS. I am pretty sure this is owned by the same people who own Tapeo...

Basics Boston

I desperately needed to buy another dresser because I have a serious addiction to buying clothes and various girly things. I also am a true believer in retail therapy when experiencing a heartache.

I knew exactly what I wanted and wanted to get it asap. After searching all over the net for something that would fit my theme and imagery I had planned, I found my match at www.basicsboston.com.

Not only did they deliver it to me within 2 hours of ordering but it also arrived fully assembled! All I had to do was take it out of the box and screw the metal knobs on and voila! I had a huge 6-drawer dresser! All I am missing now is a giant mirror that I can place right on top that way the first thing I see when I wake up is myself LOL.

In any case, I realize that considering I got my dresser as fast as I did and for as cheap as I did, it's not going to last me 10 years BUT it is a nice piece of furniture that I will probably get 2-3 years use out of.

If you are looking for chic looking furniture in the Boston area and don't want to pay Pottery Barn prices, check out what Basics Boston has to offer!

PS. Not that it matters at all and I greatly appreciate their assistance, but I couldn't help but notice that the delivery man and woman looked like they jumped to the present from 1981. They both had mohawks and rocked AC Slater pants with big chunky white sneaks that people wore in the 80's if ya know what I mean.

On an aside...

Although last night was one of the most emotional, difficult, worst nights I have had in a long time, I still think my outfit was adorable and worth noting LOL. I had been planning to wear this Sex and the City-inspired outfit for a long time and finally got the satisfaction of feeling fabulous in it last night. It's not exactly like hers but it's similar simply with a Flower twist ;)
